The key findings of the Forced Displacement Survey in Zambia have been published by UNHCR, along with access to the microdata, which will support policymakers in making well-informed decisions.
Data were collected in 2025 by Multicultural Insights and the local partner MAT Research Services through face-to-face interviews with over 4,000 households in Zambia—including refugees and asylum-seekers, former refugees, and host communities. This nationally representative study provides valuable evidence to governmental authorities, international organizations and development partners for designing inclusive, evidence-based interventions, and monitoring the progress in refugee inclusion.
Zambia hosts over 113,000 refugees, asylum seekers and former refugees, three-quarters of whom live in refugee settlements, while the remainder reside in urban areas. Although the settlements are closely integrated with host communities, refugee inclusion remains a key challenge in the context of the economic pressures Zambia is currently facing.
